Reset Fees and Activation Fees
You buy the challenge. You fail. You buy it again, often at a “reset” price that is quietly higher than the marketing made it sound. This is the second purchase, and it’s the one most budgets forget.
Reset fees
- What: a discounted (or not) re-entry after failing a phase.
- Why it exists: it’s revenue. Nothing more, nothing less.
- What to check: the reset price per account size, whether resets stack, and whether the discount applies to resets.
Activation fees
- What: a charge to activate the funded account after you pass.
- Where it hides: in the terms, never on the pricing page.
- Reality: most major firms do not charge a separate activation fee; some do or bundle it into the challenge price. If a firm charges one, it’s a yellow flag worth a note.
The maths that matters
A $99 challenge with a $79 reset that you fail twice costs $257, not $99. Budget for the worst case, not the best case:
1 purchase + 1 reset + 1 reset = 3× your entry price before you ever see a funded account
The gotcha
Firms advertise the entry price. Almost nobody advertises the lifetime price of failing. Reset and activation terms live in the FAQ or terms, check both before you buy, and add the numbers together.
